[Dallas / everywhere] Make August Hotter! National Day of Action
The Good Fight continues against fascism in Texas. Texas Democratic State Representatives have left the state to safeguard congressional representation for communities of color and oppose a Trumpist power grab through a redistricting hoodwink.
Join in a national day of action next Saturday August 16 outside of the TX State Capital at 11 am- 11th & Congress. The call comes from Texas Alliance for Retired Americans which is part of the AFL-CIO. The following is an excerpt from their email on the subject:
The Texas AFL-CIO has announced that our redistricting fight has now gone national. August 16 is the new National Day of Action with participation across the nation. Texas’ biggest effort will be at the State Capitol at 11AM. Unions and our allies are making August hotter for autocrats and would-be dictators.
We Are Defending Many Fronts
There are many battlefronts against autocracy. The redistricting fight is near the top because fundamental democracy is involved, but a lot of other issues are critical.
Both Dallas and Fort Worth officials have announced that they are caving in to the autocrats and giving up all efforts to oppose such evils as racism, homophobia, male chauvinism, and ageism. Unemployment and prices are rising. Inequality continues as the main description for the U.S. and world economy. Unprecedented government union busting is rampant. This week, it became even more difficult to assess our conditions when Donald Trump fired the chief statistician for the Bureau of Labor Statistics – from which the world used to draw much of its information.
Labor Has the Good News
The nationwide coalition against autocracy, with organized labor leading, is taking form.
